Chris Shanahan, FSA, MAAA
Interim Chief Executive Officer, North America, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Chris assumed the role of interim Chief Executive Officer in December 2007.  Previously, Chris was Executive Vice President of Business Development with responsibility for coordinating Scottish Re offering of products and services to the North American marketplace.  He joined the company in January 2005. 

Chris has an extensive background in life reinsurance, serving as Vice President-Product Solutions & Research at ING Re prior to joining Scottish Re. In that role, he oversaw outsourced product development, COLI/BOLI pricing, and critical illness pricing as well as managing actuarial, underwriting, and medical research. Prior to joining ING Re, Chris was 2nd Vice President & Managing Director for Lincoln Re where he managed life reinsurance pricing, COLI pricing & underwriting, and treaty development. Before joining Lincoln Re, Chris served in several actuarial capacities within Lincoln National Corporation encompassing valuation, asset-liability management, and pricing.

Chris holds a B.S. in Actuarial Science from Drake University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Meredith Ratajczak, FSA, MAAA
Interim Chief Financial Officer, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Prior to joining Scottish Re in 2006 as Chief Actuary of Scottish Re's North American segment, Meredith was a Consulting Actuary and Equity Partner at Milliman for nineteen years. She has also worked as an actuary for Investors Life Insurance Company of North America and Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company.  Meredith served on the planning committee for the Valuation Actuary Symposium for twelve years, four of those years serving as Chairperson.  She also served on the faculty of the Life and Health Qualification Seminar for two years. 

Meredith holds a B.B.A. with a major in Finance from Penn State University.  She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Donna T. Mosely, FSA, MAAA
Senior Vice President, Securitization Accounting & Compliance, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Currently Donna is responsible for reporting and compliance for all collateral facility and securitization transactions for Scottish Re (U.S), Inc.  Prior to this role she had responsibility for treasury functions in North America and was head of the Denver office.  

Before joining Scottish Re, Donna worked for ING Group from 1988 through 2004.  Her most recent position at that company was as Chief Financial Officer for the reinsurance operations in North America.  During 1998 through 2000, she was in the headquarters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands working for the Chief Actuary of ING Group. In this position she was responsible for monitoring the financial performance and condition of all insurance entities in Belgium, Asia/Australia and North America. Prior to this assignment, she served in several roles within the retail insurance operations of Security Life of Denver, a member of the ING Group.

Donna holds a M.A. in Political Economy from the University of Texas.  She is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Gregg Klingenberg
Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Gregg provides strategic legal support to the corporation and its officers regarding overall corporate affairs and regulatory issues.

Prior to joining Scottish Re, Gregg practiced in the Charlotte office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, focusing primarily on capital markets transactions. Gregg formerly was in-house counsel to the investment division of Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company, a health care and financial services company located in Denver, Colorado, and an associate in the Denver office of Kutak Rock, LLP, where his practice focused on structured finance and general corporate matters.

Gregg holds a J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from Nazareth College.

Jay Biehl, FSA, MAAA
Senior Vice President Research & Analysis, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Jay leads the Scottish Re Mortality Research Center which supports new business origination efforts, life underwriting, financial planning and capital market efforts. 

Jay has over twenty-one years experience in the life insurance and reinsurance industry.  Prior to joining Scottish Re in January 2008, Jay was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Tower Bank and Trust Company.  From 2002-2004, Jay worked for ING Re as the Vice President and Chief Pricing Actuary.  Prior to that, Jay worked for Lincoln Re for eighteen years in various roles including Director of Individual Health Reinsurance, Head of Research and Development and Chief Pricing Actuary.

Jay holds a B.S. degree in Actuarial Science and Computer Science from Ball State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Lisa Smith, CLU
Senior Vice President, Operations and Head of Denver Site, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Lisa manages Administration, Claims, and Client Compliance for Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc. business.  In addition, she manages the Denver office which includes 120 employees.
 
Lisa joined Scottish Re in January 2005. Prior to joining Scottish Re, she worked for ING Re where she served as Vice President of business operations from 2002 to 2004, Executive Director of strategic planning and organizational development from 2000 to 2002, and Director of business operations from 1998 to 2000. From 1981 to 1998, Lisa worked for Security Life of Denver where she held key management positions in the group life & health business and later, in the non-qualified executive benefits business (COLI).
 
Lisa holds a B.S. in Economics from Bates College and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation.

Larry Roy, FLMI
Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Larry is responsible for the North American life and group life reinsurance business.

Larry’s career spans thirty-eight years in the life insurance and reinsurance industry.  Prior to joining Scottish Re, he served as Executive Vice President, Sales for Swiss Re North America in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he managed the multi-channel distribution of reinsurance products and services throughout North America. His sales management positions include Senior Vice President, Transamerica reinsurance and Senior Vice President, sales and marketing of Lincoln Reassurance.

Larry holds an Accounting degree from Auburn University-Montgomery and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). In addition to his sales roles, he has served on several boards including Lincoln Reassurance and Lincoln Health and Casualty Insurance Company and currently on Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc. and Scottish Holdings.

TREATY DEVELOPMENT BACK TO TOP
Joan M. Paulter, CLU
Vice President, Treaties, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Joan manages the development and writing of all reinsurance and retrocession contracts covering life insurance and annuity products, including conventional and financial treaties.

Joan has over thirty years of professional experience in the writing and development of life reinsurance treaty contracts for traditional and non-traditional lines of business. Her career in reinsurance includes ten years with General Reassurance Corp., where she served as Client Services Representative, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Vice President.  She also spent ten years as Assistant Vice President with ITT Hartford International Life Reassurance Corp. Immediately prior to joining Scottish Re, she was Assistant Vice President with General & Cologne Re.

Joan received a degree in marketing from the University of Bridgeport (CT) and received her Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from the American College of Insurance.

Lonny Meewes, FSA, MAAA
Senior Vice President & Actuary, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Lonny is responsible for the pricing of Traditional, Financial, Group Life and Acquired Solutions Reinsurance as well as managing the company's underwriting treaty efforts.

Lonny’s career spans fifteen years in the life insurance and reinsurance industry.  Lonny joined Scottish Re in 2001 following service as Assistant Vice President and Associate Actuary with Universal American Financial Corp. He was an Assistant Actuary, product management, for Royal Maccabees Life Insurance Company, and began his career as an actuarial analyst with the Federal Home Life and Harvest Life Insurance companies.

Lonny holds a B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics (magna cum laude) from the University of Central Florida. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
